mail merge utf-8 encoded data from ms-access

Although I can export utf-8 encoded data from ms-access as a text
file, then mail merge that, I wonder if there is a way to skip the
'save as text file' step?

Which version of Word/Access are you using? Assuming that none of the ways
of connecting to Access from Word do what you need (and that is probably the
case in Word 2000), I'd say there is probably no better alternative to the
approach you are using.

I am using Word/Access 2000.
