I am merging certificates that are two to a page.  Doing it with merge filled
in on both certs (top and bottom) gives me the same name on each of the
certs, i.e., mary jones on the top one and mary jones on the bottom one.
When I use "next record" word field on the top cert, it causes the result to
skip every other name with different skips for different permutations of
where I put "next record".  What trick is there to have the result be names 1
and 2 from the source file show up on page one, names 3 and 4 show up on page
2, etc. with no skips?

Thanks

With any luck, you're nearly there - put the <<Next record>> before the
/second/ certificate on the page, and remove the one you have at the top of
the page.
