how do I turn off the *#!%$ task pane that automatically
appears to the left of the document window every time I
open Word (or Excel)?

I've tried customizing my toolbars and unclicking "task
pane" and that takes it away only as long as the program is
open. I'm getting tired of having to shut it down each time
I open the program.

Any ideas?

Found the answer in a previous post; downloaded the Task
Pane Controller for both Word and Excel and the problem is
solved! Thank you Graham!
