It drives me nuts: Whenever I open one of my WORD-97
documents, I receive the message: "This document is used
by Alex, do you want to make a copy?" I am Alex! My name
is in the summary of the properties. I tried severals
things, to no avail. How can I get rid of that once and
forever?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Alex,

How are you opening the files? If you are opening the files outside
the application (other than using File/Open) then it sounds like the
File Association needs to be recreated.

Go to Start/Run and run the following:

winword /r

Note that there is a space before the forward slash.
