Have a blank icon on my STANDARD toolbar in Word XP.  Was from a 3rd party
package that was uninstalled.  The graphic icon was removed but the space
for the icon is still there and when you put the mouse over it, the removed
software package name pops up.  How can I remove this dead space?

Hi Al,

Tools > Customize...

Then, click and drag the offending icon off the toolbar, drop it in the
middle of the page where it will die an honourable death!

You can also, without opening the Customize dialog, just press Alt and
click-drag the button off the toolbar.

I'm not sure I've ever used it myself, but after years of constantly being
reminded of it by others, at least I do remember it exists!
