In Word XP when you change to Full Screen mode a
new "full screen" toolbar popus up on the screen; you can
move it about, but I have not found a way to close it.

It's really annoying because on my laptop I have a fairly
small screen - it merely wastes space and gets in the way.

I've removed the button but the toolbar itself is still
there. Cannot remove by going through "customize" either -
the checkbox cannot be cleared!

A real brainteaser!

Any help much appreciated.

Al,

You can run the following AutoExec macro:

Sub AutoExec()
CommandBars("Full Screen").Enabled = False
End Sub
