How do you insert custom templates in Word 2000 so that
they show up on the listing when you go to File -> New
Document. I used to be able to do it by going through
application data. Thanks for the help.

This one:

Hi Joanne

You need to save your templates in (subfolders of) your own user templates
directory, which is normally in your profile under 'Documents and Settings'.
You can find the path from Tools > Options > File locations.

The 1033 folder contains Word's own templates, and I'm not sure how much
freedom you have to add subfolders to it.

Normally when you create a template and "Save as type:
Document Template (*.dot)" Word will automatically go to
the correct folder. But if you don't save it has a
Document Template you will need to find the folder.  It
varies from PC to PC.  Find the folder where
the "Normal.dot" file is located and that's where to put
your template.  However, I repeat, in the "Save as" pop-up
box, if you "Save as type:  Document Template (*.dot)",
you will not need to find the folder.  It will
automatically go to it.  Hope this helps.

Go to the tools menu and choose options.  On the file location tab,
check the path next to the user templates.  That's the path where you
need to save the templates so they show up in the file new dialog box.
