Dear Folks,

Using Word 2003, after a long and productive relationship
with Office 97.

For reasons of custom, I would like the tool bar to
appear on two lines.

Each time I start Word, I customize the toolbar to
achieve two lines, but the changes won't stick.

Also running Windows XP Pro

Help !

When your customizations don't stick, it's usually for one of two reasons:

1. There is damage to the Registry. You can rebuild the Data key following
the instructions at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm

2. A global template or add-in loading at startup is resetting your options.
Troubleshoot this by temporarily moving each of the add-ins out in turn and
restarting Word until you find which one is doing it, then decided whether
you can live without the add-in or live with the aggravation (or contact the
maker of the add-in for a corrected version).

Thanks for the prompt response.

Can you clarify re: add-ins..?

Would these be Word add-ins, add-ins to other Office
programs, or other add-ins to other programs?

thanks again

Suzanne et al,

I decided to work on the registry, after a backup, of
course and am glad to report that my customized toolbar
is now "sticky" and I'm happy.

Good! I'm glad that worked for you. To answer your other question, this
would be add-ins to Word that load at startup. You can see a list of (most
of) these in Tools | Templates and Add-ins (you may not have any, but most
users have at least one). Some add-ins (COM add-ins) are not listed but can
be detected in another way; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm.
