MS Office Forum / Word / Menus and Toolbars / March 2004Toolbar customization won't stick
Dear Folks, Using Word 2003, after a long and productive relationship with Office 97. For reasons of custom, I would like the tool bar to appear on two lines. Each time I start Word, I customize the toolbar to achieve two lines, but the changes won't stick. Also running Windows XP Pro Help ! When your customizations don't stick, it's usually for one of two reasons: 1. There is damage to the Registry. You can rebuild the Data key following the instructions at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm 2. A global template or add-in loading at startup is resetting your options. Troubleshoot this by temporarily moving each of the add-ins out in turn and restarting Word until you find which one is doing it, then decided whether you can live without the add-in or live with the aggravation (or contact the maker of the add-in for a corrected version). -- Suzanne S. Good! I'm glad that worked for you. To answer your other question, this would be add-ins to Word that load at startup. You can see a list of (most of) these in Tools | Templates and Add-ins (you may not have any, but most users have at least one). Some add-ins (COM add-ins) are not listed but can be detected in another way; see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm. -- Suzanne S.
