Word/OUTLOOK/Adobe 6.0

I have Office2003 with Microsoft Word set as the e-mail editor in OUTLOOK.
I recently installed Adobe 6.0 and noticed that each time I composed an
e-mail and then closed OUTLOOK I was getting the prompt that changes had
been made to normal.dot.

I went in Word and opened a new document based on the e-mail template and
noted the same problem.  When I close the document and close Word the
normal.dot changes prompt would appear.

One of the option in Adobe is to configure a PDF Maker in OUTLOOK that
creates a icon to "Attach as PDF File."  This same icon is created in the
e-mail template in Word.  When the e-mail template is closed, the the icon
remains in the blank document view (or normal.dot).  This is the change that
is occurring.

Does anyone know how to keep this icon from sticking in the normal.dot
template after the e-mail template is closed?

Thank you.

Have you checked Tools > Options > Save(tab), to see if "Prompt to save
Normal template" is checked, if so, uncheck it.

Andre,

I think this is the second time I have told you that taking the action that
you suggest is like taking the batteries out of the smoke alarm because it
is annoying when if goes off.  It masks a symptom but doesn't fix the
problem.

Andre,

Please don't tell people to do this. You've been told that this is BAD
advice. Telling people to turn off the problem notification is stupid unless
you are trying to be cruel or malicious. The alert is not the problem. The
problem is something making changes.

Perhaps writing and complaining to Adobe? It is simple to write Add-Ins that
don't do this but they don't bother. Otherwise, remove the Add-In and just
create your pdf file and attach it without using the menu command.

Charles,

Probably good advice :-).  I am as stubborn as a mule.  My choices are don't
use Word as my OUTLOOK e-mail editor or forget about this as you suggest and
create PDFs then attach.

A friend has the same arrangement as me and he is not getting this same
problem.  This is the main reason I haven't let this insignificant problem
go :-) .

Break, Break

Thanks for reminding Andre about pushing off bum dope on people.  He won't
listen to me.  Maybe by tag teaming he will get the message.

Hi Greg,

If someone else has the same setup (including OS) and doesn't have the
problem, then there should be something that can be done about it. I don't
have a clue as to what, though.

I quit using Word as my email editor years ago. I did that for two reasons:
1) I prefer plain text and automatically transform email I recieve into
plain text, primarily for security reasons but also because I got tired of
downloading all sorts of pictures in spam.
2) Back when I quit, using Word as an email editor caused problems with
Word. I have 15 Add-Ins, most of which I wrote myself, and email editing
interfered with their performance. The advice I've seen on these boards
since then has been uniform that it doesn't function well. Some of the
problems may have been fixed. I'm using 2003 now and was using Word 97 (with
Outlook 98) when I went to plain-text.

Break-Break
I have my OE options to highlight any message from Andre in fuchsia so that
I can backstop him. I presume he is trying to help but that presumption is
wearing thin. It is possible that he doesn't check for responses to his
replies. In OE it is easy to flag threads to watch when I post something in
it; he may not have that utility. It does get frustrating though. (Not that
my advice is always that sterling. I'm sure I frustrated the MVPs from time
to time, perhaps I still do. I do try to not repeat my mistakes, though, and
test my suggestions.)
