I'm am completely baffled by the tab stops in word. On
most of the documents I create for work, tabs only work on
the line 'tick' marks across the ruler. If I want to move
the tab, it jumps to the next line (tick) in the ruler. If
I want the tab between ticks, I must hold the alt key.
My problem is that in some documents, and for reasons I
can't understand, the tab will work in half increments. In
some documents I can move the tab to the midway point
between tick marks as well as onto the marks. I can't
figure out how to change this once it has been set. Either
it will go one full mark or it will go to the half way
point as well. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for
why this is and I can't find a way to change the way the
tab moves across the ruler once I've created a document.
To make matters worse, today one of my coworkers opened a
new document and the tab marks wouldn't stop on the tick
marks or the half way point. Instead, the tabs he created
(without using the alt key) were 1/3 of the way between the
marks on the ruler.
Can anyone help?????

Carlos,
A few things.
Here is a link with instruction for setting tabs that you may find useful:
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/SettingTabs.htm
Display the drawing toolbar and then press draw button and then grid. Check
you grid settings. Snap to grid may be contributing to your frustration or
the grid increments may be too large.

Greg,
How do I thank you? I never would have looked for the
solution to my tab problem in the drawing toolbar.
Thanks!
