I find that if I set Formats to Modern, then Right align page numbers is
grayed out. And, if I go ahead and insert a ToC, and later revisit the ToC
dialog, now the Right align... is grayed out for "From template" as well.
However... if I set Formats to Classic (or anything else for which Right
align... isn't grayed out), and insert that ToC... then delete it... when I
revisit the ToC dialog, now the Right align... is no longer grayed out for
From template.
Go figure...

thanks, herb. it works this way for me as well, however,
the "classic" formatting sticks. that is, it doesn't
revert to the From template formatting.
i actually figured out the problem myself. i have TOC 1
formatted as centered; when this is the case, it appears
the option to have page numbers right aligned ceases to be
an option. obviously, i am putting in the \n "1-1" code
to get rid of the page numbers at that top level, but it
would be nice to not have to delete the \p " " code as
well. in fact, it would be nice if the TOC options dialog
allowed you to make these edits right there to the
resulting field. too much to hope for i suppose.
