Hi Beth,
I am not sure i am answering your question or not. Your question seems
more confusing. In all the word versions to search for a word or a string in
a document the easiest way is to use CTRL + F.
Please let me know if i can be of correct assistance...
Thank You...

Beth is not looking for a way to "search for a word or a string in a
document." She is trying to search for *files* by keyword.

I may be imagining it, but ISTR that there was a Search button on the
Standard toolbar in Word 2002. It may or may not have been there in Word
2000. In Word 2003, there is a File Search command on the File menu, and
this could be added to a toolbar using Tools | Customize (File | File Search
on the Commands tab). In Word 2003, this opens a task pane, so it may be a
Word 2002/2003 addition, but you might explore Tools | Customize for a
comparable command.

Suzanne:
Do you know the macro wording if I want to have a button
to File-Open-Search so I can get there with one click?
Word 2000 doesn't seem to have the toolbar button.
Thanks,
Beth

You can record such a macro (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/UsingRecorder.htm). Perhaps someone else
who is VBA-literate can provide you one ready-made.

Yes, does anyone know of the VBA to write this macro? The
record macro option didn't capture what I wanted.
Thanks,
Beth
