Hi All...........
I tried this in "newusers" but got no response...........anybody here got an
idea?

Office 2000, WinMe,.............when I click on TOOLS, in WORD, the
selections for
"Macros", "Options",  "Templates and Add-ins" and "Customize" are greyed out
so I cannot select them.........how might I correct this, please?

TIA

Hi Chuck,

Some, but not all of those items are disabled when the active document is
protected.

You might try renaming the normal.dot template to oldnormal.dot and then
restart Word and see if the problem goes away.

If there were autocorrect entries or macros in the old normal.dot template
that you wish to retain, you can open the oldnormal.dot template and then
use Tools>Macros>Macro>Organizer to copy them from that template to the new
one.

Cool Doug, thanks heaps............your suggestion fixed my problem
perfectly...........

I really appreciate it........

I don't even know what a normal.dot is, so I doubt there is anything in it I
might want to keep, but just for grins, I searched for Oldnormal.dot after
renaming it per your sugestion, and clicked on it and it opened with Word,
just fine.........but I could not do Tools > Macro, because the "Macro"
selection was greyed out per my previous post.  I then opened Word without
the Oldnormal.dot as you suggested and it worked perfectly and I got all my
Tool Options, including Macros..........but when I then opened Oldnormal.dot
with Word already open, my Tool Options went away again, so I could not do
Tools > Macros............No problem, Word is working fine for me now, your
suggestion fixed me right up, I will just forget about the Oldnormal.dot
file........but I just thought you might be interested in my
experience..........

Thanks again for your help..............

Hi Chuck,

You experience makes me think that your PC might have contracted some sort
of Virus that disabled those options.

Hi Doug.........

You mighta hit the nail on the head there..........just a couple weeks ago I
contracted a serious virus problem that would not even let me open
Norton.......everytime I tried it would just crash out..............and I
was unable to do a restore on my WinME for the last several
dates.........finally I was able to do a restore from a couple of weeks
prior and most of the problems went away.........I then did a scan and found
I had four virus's.......all seems to be ok now since then except when I got
interested in doing a Macro for word and ran into this "greyed out"
thing............I would have no doubt that it is the residual from one of
those virus's.........anyway........your "fix" fixed me right up and all is
well now........

Thanks ever so much again.......
