Hi, Bryan,
Instead of trying to change the spacing, you should be trying to find out
why they're too close -- this is not a normal situation.
First, does this affect all characters in all documents? If so, the problem
may be a damaged or out-of-date printer driver or video driver. Check the
websites of the manufacturers for updated drivers.
If it affects most or all characters, but only in documents based on certain
templates, check the styles in those templates. Look at the font formatting
in the style, on the Character Spacing tab -- does the Spacing box say
"Normal" or "Condensed"? If it's Condensed, change it to Normal. You may
need to do this separately for some or all styles in each template.
If it affects only characters in a certain font, it's possible that font
file is damaged. Try reinstalling the font.
Finally, in a normal non-problem situation, if you just want to expand the
character spacing occasionally, use the Character Spacing tab of the Format
Font dialog -- set the Spacing box to Expanded and enter the amount you
want. You can do this for selected text, or in the definition of a style.
