Subject:  assigning new duties with a right mouse click
From:  "winter" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com>

I am using word to edit a daily digest I get.  I have
been picking certain posts, coping them using the "right
mouse button, taking them into a word document file and
pasting them there.  I go back and format the subject
lines by picking a border and choosing a color based on
wether it's a first post or a reply.  Can I get these
format changes on my right mouse button, so that when I
use the "paste" on the right mouse button I can just
hilight the subject line and then  use these format
sequences that I repeat over and over using the right
mouse button rather than going up to the top menu,
using "format" drop down menu, then going into shades and
borders and then picking the border , color, clicking ok
everytime?
Your input would be appreciated. TIA

I would like to know how to take them off this funtion,

Hi Winter,

You should be able to do this, yes. You don't mention which
version of Word you have, so I can only speak in general
terms:

1. Set up two styles (paragraph type, I assume? You're not
fomratting single characters, but entire paragraphs?)

2. Tools/Customize/Toolbars and pick "Shortcut menus"

3. A set of three menus should appear somewhere near the
left edge of the Word window. You now have to figure out
what menu it is appears when you right click. It will
probably be at least one in the "Text" list. Most likely,
you'll need "Text" and probably "Spelling".

4. Go to the "Commands" tab in the dialog box and choose
the category "Styles"

5. Drag each of these styles to the command's list where
you want to use them.

Note that you could also assign the styles to keyboard
shortcuts.

Cindy, Thank you for responding.  I have WORD 2002.  I
ended up picking macros under "commands" after I had
defined them.  And dragged them to the menu on the left.
I used them , but after I had turned off my computer they
didnt stick .  When I redid the macros there were steps
in that shouldnt have been there.  I deleted the macros
in the "Tool" dialog box but I couldnt get them off
my "right"mouse button. And after I tried to use them
from the right button after haveing deleted the macros
from the dialog box, a pop up said that they no longer
were functional,(but they are still on my mouse).  How
would I get them off the mouse menu?  Winter

I didn't say anything about using macros...

You always have to be very careful where things are stored.
If you recorded the macros, they're probably in your
NORMAL.DOT template. Changes to the toolbar could be there;
but they could also be in the document itself, or its
template.

Also, if you create things in the Normal.dot template, you
have to be careful to not answer "No" if Word ever prompts
you to save changes to that template.

Hmmmm. When you tried deleting the buttons you were in
Tools/Customize mode, right? In that case, try creating the
two macros again, with EXACTLY the same names. Maybe then
you can delete the buttons. Be sure to check the "Save in"
value in the dropdown!
