Can't turn off auto newsletter-style colums

I just loaded word 2003 and when ever I open a document
the default is newsletter-style config (2 columns). I
want to make the "old" single column the default when I
open word up. Does anyone know how? Thanks,

Your document is already blank, but it is the same situation as the one
