Hi, sorry if it's the wrong area but when I go file new from templates, I get all the
tabs for the office Word Templates which come with Office as well as my custom ones.
I'm using Word XP.
How to I hide the office template tabs and only show my own template tabs?
Kaylene
If you don't want the "installed" templates available, the only way to get
rid of them is to uninstall them. Go to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs,
select Office XP, click Change, and choose Add or Remove Features. Find the
templates and set them to Not Available. If there are any of them that you
think you might ever want to use, you might want to create a Microsoft
Templates subfolder in your User Templates folder (which will create a
Microsoft Templates tab in the File New dialog) and copy those templates to
that folder before uninstalling. One caveat: when you uninstall all the
templates, among those that you lose are the Macros10.dot (?) and
Support.dot templates, which are installed in a Macros folder (not in the
Templates folder with the rest). You may want to be careful to copy these
elsewhere before uninstalling.

Thanks Suzanne, I'll look into it tonight.

Followed your instructions and everything is as I want it now. I've saved the office
templates in the my personal template area under MS Office templates. I saved the
Support.dot template but did not locate a Macros10.dot or any Macros*.dot.
Once again thank you.

I wasn't sure about the Macros*.dot, as I can't find one on my system,
either. I know there was one in Word 2002.

Maybe they just dropped that one. I even checked the work computer just in case.
Word in Office XP is Word 2002 (maybe it had something to do with SP3).
If I ever need help in Word, I'll visit this NG again.
Thanks for your assistance, the previous versions were so much simplier to remove the
extra tabs, you just moved the files. It didn't occur to me to just simply uninstall
them.

The new behavior of templates started in Office 2000, which was the first to
distinguish "Advertised and Installed" templates ("Advertised" are the ones
set to Install on First Use) from User Templates and Workgroup Templates
(see "OFF2000: How Office 2000 Manages Templates" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=240216). I agree that the method used in
Word 97 and earlier was easier, but I'm sure there was a good reason for the
new arrangement.

I'm sure there was. Thanks for the article.
