autotext, new

when i select insert>autotext>new the new selection is
grayed out.

how can i fix this?

Hi Doug,

First select the thing (text, picture, etc.) that you want to have as the
"result" of the autotext. Then the New item will be active. See
http://www.word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/AutoText.htm.
