I have works suite 2004 with word 2002. I created a
template which is stored under "personal templates" on the
task launcher, which is where it should be. However, I
want to edit the template. I opened the template, made
the changes, and saved it under the identical name. I
received the error message "template already exists, do
you want to overwrite it?" I replied, yes, because that
is what I want to do. Now, in the "personal templates"
folder in the task launcher, two icons showing the
identical template appear. It apparently created a second
one, rather than overwrite it. I cannot get the duplicate
template to delete easily. I searched in the Windows
Explorer for the folder containing the template, which I
found, and only one icon of the template appears there.
How can I delete the duplicate icon in the task launcher?
I threw it into the recycle bin from Windows explorer,
then tried opening it from Task launcher, it told me it
was deleted, and removed the icon. I went back into the
recycle bin and restored it from there. That worked, but
there just HAS to be a better way! Help would be greatly
appreciated.

You need to ask this in a Works newsgroup such as microsoft.public.works.win
since this is a Works, rather than Word, issue.

The template was created in Word 2002. The works task
launcher 2004 contains word, works spreadsheet, and
database. It shows up as a word template.

Is this the Works task launcher or Word's task pane that you are talking
about?
As Suzanne says this is a Word group. However a couple of points:
The Works add-in for Word is problematical with Word - it's a regular bug
fest - and is probably best uninstalled to remove the integration between
Works and Word.
Instead of saving the default template as a new template with the same
name - you should have simply saved it. Your new template may be fine
(provided you only have one file called normal.dot) but you can start again
by renaming it to (say) oldnormal.dot and let Word build a new one.
The multiple entries on the *Works* task launcher would probably be an
example of the problems of the add-in. You would need to go to a Woks group
for more discussion on the Works aspect of the applications.
