Is there anyway I can save changes I make to the 'normal'
template?
Whatever way I try, when I save it I get a message saying
I cannot save a file with the same name as a file that is
already open.
Basic stuff, I know, but I'm stumped....
Thanks in advance

You are trying to save as - if you have normal.dot open simply save it.
Do not try and save another template as normal.dot - normal.dot is a special
kind of file that only Word can make.
