Our laboratory information system integrates with word, so
users could save documents with Save as type option of
"Save Text With Layout (*.ans).
However, this option is no longer available in Office 2003,
so it appears that backward compatibility has been lost.
Does anyone know if any downloads exists for this option,
or what file(s) are required so that we can manually copy
them from PC that have a Word 2000, or Office XP
installation, where this option was available? I have
searched Microsoft and the web and I can not find any
articles to indicate the status of this option.

You probably need to choose the Advanced Customization install option.
Choose Start - Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs - Microsoft Office
2003 - Add or Remove - Advanced Customization - Office Shared Features -
Converters and Filters, etc.

Hi Herb,
Thank you for your suggestion, but this is something that
we tried already; the option Save Text with Layout is not
available from the drop-down list when choosing File >
Save As.
