I am running Word 2003 on Windows XP SP2. When I open a new document I get
the document opened with Word's "Getting Started" and 4 tool bars (Standard,
Formatting, Task Pane and PDF Maker). I would like New Word Documents to
start with out the "Getting Started", without the PDF Maker toolbar and with
the tool configuration I choose (I add some icons to the Formatting tool bar
using Tools -> options. I would like the old documents to open with the
toolbars as I left them.
I have changed the normal.dot in C;\Documents and
Settings\Jeffrey\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates to the configuration
that I want, but after I save it, I open any word document (old or new) I
get the original configuration as described above.
How can I make my changes stick? Thanks for any help.
If you have already cleared the "Show at startup" box on the Getting Started
task pane, and that is not working, you need the Task Pane Controller from
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/ShowTaskPane.htm. As for the Adobe
toolbar, see http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm

Well, I installed the Task Pane Controller, and I still get the "Getting
Started" Task Pane when Word 2003 starts...

Have you selected the appropriate settings in the Task Pane Controller to
suppress the task pane?
