I am using Word 2003. I would like to be able to click on the icon of the
program on the toolbar to open the program, such as a Certified Mail program,
etc. I do know the paths of the programs.

I never saw the point of putting application links on Word's toolbar - put
them on Windows Quick launch toolbar. Applications intended to integrate
with Word will do so by means of an add-in in the Word (or Office) start-up
folder and will place their own toolbars as required.

In that case, go into the VBA editor, create a Sub MacroName line, press Enter,
then type: Shell
and press F1 to read the help. Basically, you can just give it the file path to
the *.exe.
