Office 2003 Menu

Everytime I open a new session of WORD 2003, 1-3 PDF icons attach themselves
to the Menu Toolbar so that if I've opened and closed WORD 4-5 times, I can
have as many of 15-20 PDF icons (Acrobat Comments Acrobat Comments Acrobat
Comments Acrobat Comments Acrobat Comments Adobe PDF Adobe PDF Acrobat
Comments etc etc) attached to the Menu Toolbar (actually it's not a toolbar,
its the Menu bar with File Edit View Insert etc.).   After it takes up two
or three lines of real estate, I right-click, customize, and drag them off.

The icons are empty, i.e., they don't contain any drop down menus or take me
anywhere.  The first one, (after Help) Acrobat Comments, does have a drop
down but the others are useless.

I wonder if this is a problem with Adobe Acrobat 6.0 not being quite
compatible with Office 2003 or if this is a Microsoft Office problem.  I
have installed the update to Acrobat 6.0 and run updates on Office.  If
anybody has any help, I will very much appreciate it.

I suspect this is caused by one of two issues:
1. You have more than one acrobat add-in. (Check tools > templates &
add-ins) and more likely
2. There is a conflict with some other add-in. I would have blamed the Works
add-in, but I don't think Works is available with Word 2003 yet. So what
else have you?
If these are not the problem, see if
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm helps bring it to
heel.

In tools > templates & add-ins, there are two dots listed:  PDFMaker.dot and
PDFMakerold.dot.
They are both checked.  If I uncheck them or remove them, they are there the
next time I open a new session of Word.

You suggest that it is more likely I have a conflict with other add-ins and
ask, what else do I have.  I do not know how to check for other add-ins.

You also directed me to the "Lose that adobe acrobat toolbar."  I don't mind
having the toolbar loaded each time.  It's all those icons that get attached
to the Menu Bar that is the problem.

Please advise.  Thanks, Jeannine

Unchecking add-ins doesn't stop them from being loaded the next time you
start Word. To do that, you have to move them out of Word's Startup folder.

As Suzanne has indicated, if the files are in the start-up folder they will
be re-checked automatically. You also have *both* add-ins loading which is
no doubt at the root of the problem. Delete both from the list. Remove the
pdfmakerold.dot completely and move pdfmaker.dot to a different folder as
described in the web page you quoted. Then add it again to the list. You can
then load it as required.

Thank you.  I finally located WORD's startup folder and deleted everything
from it except pdfmaker.dot.  Now my menu bar is the way it should be.
Thank you, Graham and Suzanne, for your help on this.
