I'm at my wits' end on this. My toolbars and menus are practically
unusable with the display problems I'm having in all my Office 2003
apps. Here are two small screenshots to show the problem, as I can't
really describe it. It's like the buttons remain in a permanently
depressed state, and appear "scalloped".

I recently installed Office 2003 Pro, complete, from my NFD Action Pack
CD. I chose not to uninstall Office 2002, except for Outlook, which
could not coexist with the new version. OK, so I figured that might have
been the source of my trouble, so I uninstalled everything, then deleted
the Office reg keys. Updated my graphics drivers (Matrox Millenium G550)
to the latest version, renamed my Normal template in case that was he
problem, and reinstalled Office 2003. No change, display still screwey.
Any ideas on how I can resolve this--without disabling all Windows
Themes support? When I hit Tools, Customize, the display clears
temporarily, but is back to hosed as soon as I close the Customize
dialog. I don't have this problem on my laptop.
Help!! BTW, where else would be a good place to post this? Thanks,
Abe

Finally found a temporary solution: reduce the graphics card hardware
acceleration setting to one notch above none (Display Props, Settings,
Advanced, Troubleshoot).

This isn't really acceptable, of course, so I'd appreciate hearing other
possible solutions.
Thanks,

Hi Abeness,
The first thing to try would be contacting the manufacturer of your graphics
card, and asking whether they haven't an updated driver explicitly designed to
work with Office (Word) 2003.

True enough, and I've done that already, but they haven't heard of this
issue yet. Major manufacturer, Matrox. Thanks. Trying to cover all bases
and forgot to mention it here. It *is* annoying that Office apps are the
only ones affected, though I imagine that has to do with Microsoft
leveraging their cutting-edge technologies... Grrrrr. I'm in the process
of system reinstallation/testing graphics drivers on, thankfully, a
spare hard disk. Ick. (feeling pain)

Finally isolated the problem to my Pivot Pro software (version 7.5), in
portrait mode (90). Just bought and installed the latest version, 7.68,
after testing the trial: lo and behold they've resolved the issue.
Methodical testing saves the day once again.

Thanks for the feedback; one more to add to the list of possible
troublemakers.
