Hello all;
Every time I open Word, I get two "floating"(?) toolbars. One is
"Controls", the other is "Design mode". And I can't seem to figure out how
to make them permanently disappear. I'll open them if I need them. But I
don't want them to pop-up each time I open a file. I've been through the
options box, but nothing seems to ring a bell as likely candidate.
I read through this group, and applied all of the things I could find. But
so far...nada! I can click them closed and updated normal.dot. But they
keep coming back! IIRC; this started sometime around my SP2 update...but
I'm not absolutely positive about that.
I've browsed "addbalance", and downloaded and/or read the various other tips
I found here. But most of what I find on this group is about making them or
getting them to appear (:-o)! For me, it's the opposite. I don't want
gratuitous tools to pop up, for any reason! If I need something, I've been
using Word long enough to know how to find 'em.
Any ideas?

You are in Design Mode. This happens most often when you insert controls
from the Controls Toolbox. You almost never want to be using those controls.
Instead use the Forms toolbar or use a UserForm. I'm don't have a clue what
you are doing that is getting you into design mode, now.
