I have XP Home and Word 97.

Recently I have been getting "The file is read-only" box when I try to edit
a file and save, that I have been doing regularly over the past without
problems. Nowadays I've got this problem with a few different docs. so far.
What could be wrong?
TIA

See the article "I keep getting files that I am working on locked for
editing. Word only allows me to open them read-only" at:

Thanks for your response.

Went to your given link. Trying to delete *.tmp, there are some compressed
folders there. On pressing delete, I get the pop-up box saying "deleting
from archives", and it goes on and on without end. It won't stop no matter
what I did to close the box or stop it. Had to finally go to Task Manager
and End Task. Pls advise on what am I to do about it.
Thanks
