How were they created?
In what type of template are they stored?
Where are those templates located?

How were they created? - in word basic
In what type of template are they stored? - please

Where are those templates located? - on the file server,
with workgroup templates option in word pointing to such.

For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog,
and locations of templates folders see
http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.

Word basic ended with Word 97 which introduced vba. Macros are stored in
templates, in normal.dot by default. It is possible that you are
standardizing normal.dot and overwriting changes.

Normal.dot should not be a shared file, ever. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc.
