Yes, that's what I mean. In Word 2000, the menus were black type on gray
background. Now they are black type on sort of an offwhite background (with
a light gray strip down the left). Much harder to read. Do you know of any
way to change this? And I'm not sure what you mean when you say you
selected "Maple". I don't know where you are selecting the colors.

Thanks again. I appreciate your time.

Such colors are set in Windows display settings. Right-click on your desktop
and pick Properties. Click on the Appearance tab and go to work. You may
need to click on the Advanced button to get to details.

Hi Charles:
Good to hear from you again. That's how I started to try to change colors. No
matter what color I change from the Appearance/Advanced/Menu color setting, the
color of the Word menus doesn't change. I DID discover that if I change the
setting for 3D objects, that the Word menus change. However, they seem to be a
2-tone color with a shaded color on the left & a lighter color on the right.
Additionally, it changes all 3D objects. In Win98, I was able to get a medium
gray background on the menu with black text & could read it readily. Now I
can't seem to find such a setting.

I use a pale blue background for my windows, believing it to be easier on my
eyes than white. Works in Word but I haven't tried changing the menu colors
so I accept what you tell me.

Selected colors from the list of "theme colors" after changing to the Classic
view. And no, I know of no way to force the appearance. FWIW, there were
complaints about this during the Office 2003 beta. The remarks from MSFT were
along the lines of "try updating your graphics card driver if you can't read
it". FWIW, I have no trouble seeing the text on the pastel backgrounds, but I
don't know what eye problems you may be contending with :-) However, it would
perhaps be worthwhile updating the graphics card driver?

Thanks for the information, Cindy. I'll investigate the graphics card driver
(although this is a brand new computer) & maybe play with different colors (thanks
Charles).
