Using Word XP and Adobe 5.05 on a Windows XP Pro machine in a Windows 2003
domain using roaming profiles.  The problem is that the PDFmaker.dot template
does not stay in Word.  Can click on desktop shortcut (only put there for
user), it brings up Word with the PDF icons on toolbar, but the icons
dissappear when word is closed.  Any idea what's causing them to dissappear.

You need to have the latest version of the add-in and it needs to be
installed in the correct startup folder. There is background and means of
controlling it from other locations at

Graham,

Thanks much for the quick response.

I just downloaded the latest from Adobe, tried about a gazillion different
things, including putting the PDFMaker.dot in Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office10\Startup as well as documents and
settings\username\application data\microsoft\word\startup.  Still, no go.  It
will be on the toolbar if the user doubleclicks on the PDFMaker.dot file on
his desktop, but not when he closes it or opens it via the start menu.

Any Ideas?

The only other things I can think of are that Macro security is set not to
trust installed templates and add-ins or that there is some other add-in
conflicting with it. See if Adobe's support group has any ideas. Adobe
themselves will no doubt tell you to upgrade.
If the add-in is listed in tools > templates and add-ins but unchecked, try
the method suggested in my web link to activate it.
