Can this be done? I've created a custom toolbar and I want to somehow put
buttons on it that will run macros assigned to that button
Bubba Gump Shrimp - 04 Aug 2005 16:10 GMT
ok, I figured out how to do this and I created the button on my standard
toolbar that links to a macro. HOWEVER, when I close word and go back in, my
macro is gone as well as my new button. I even tried to save it as
normal2.dot and then from Windows Explorer, delete normal.dot and rename
norm2 to normal. It still doesn't keep the new macro and button.

What am I missing here?

Thanks!
Buster

Only Word can make a Normal.dot.  Don't even mess with whatever you were
doing about saving a regular template as Normal.dot.  Quit Word, dump all
those files and let Word regenerate a Normal.dot from scratch.

If you have Acrobat 7 installed, it's got a glitch and prevents saves to
Normal.dot happening automatically. After making your customizations, hold
down the Shift key and click File. You will see Save has changed to Save
All, select it.  This will force the customizations to be immediately saved
to Normal.dot.

When I try that, and hold shift and hit file, I do see save all. However,
when I click it, it pulls up a save as window.

Why's that?

Also, while I got ya, once I get this toolbar working, is there a way for me
to share it with other folks in the office by putting it on their computers.

Thanks!

Save All wants to save the currently open document, which may be an unsaved
Document1. You can ignore that. For the rest, see

ok, I got the menu thingy working like I want it to. Thanks for the help on
that!

Now back to the copying to other users. I read that page and it says copy
the code into another template. It tells me nothing about how to copy
whatever code it's referring to. It says the following but gives no details
as to how to do so:

Copy the code into a fresh template, along with any additional menu items,
toolbars and keyboard shortcuts that you want to set up to make it easier to
access the macros. Once you are sure that it is all working, you can
distribute that template. This one wants to go into the Word Startup folder.
You can find out which folder this is by going to Tools, Options, File
Locations, and checking the Startup folder. If the template is copies there,
then next time the user opens Word, the macros and toolbars will all be
available, because the template is automatically loaded as an add-in.

Thanks for any guidance you can give me!

OK, I figured out how to copy the macro code for the macros I created to
another computer. Is there a way to copy a custom toolbar?

Thanks again!
