I have made some custom keyboard shortcuts to insert symbols that I
commonly use which are not easily accessible.

Question -- where are the shortcuts stored?

Question -- do I need to set-up or save the custom shortcuts in each
of my templates?

Question -- do I need to set-up or save the custom shortcuts on each
of my computers?

Question -- how do I use the keyboard shortcuts when I'm using a
computer in my school's computer lab?

Thank you.

G'day "<*(((><{" <Fishy@Ocean.Net>,

In the KeyBindings collection of the template or document you had the
customization context set to.

No - you can define them all in a global template. See
word.mvps.org/FAQs for more info.

You need to distribute that global to each machine.

With difficulty. I imagine you are locked down and cant access the
program files directory, making it difficult to to install your
global. Speak to the IT support who locked down your SOE and ask them
what options are available for installing a global template into
Word's startup drawer.

Of course, installing said file can affect ALL USERS which is not fair
on your classmates. In these cases, you will need the shortcuts set
inside the document template, and you can keep the document template
in the same dir as the document so there are no write access problems.
If you will have multiple templates, then it is best to write the VBA
to set your shortcuts so you can run it on document template you like.

Keyboard shortcuts are stored in templates or documents, normal.dot by
default. They are stored where you store them.

See http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step
instructions on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations
including AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros,
etc.
