Re: Word 2003 Doesn't "Remember" Font/Toolbar CustomizationsAdobe 7 flags
normal.dot as "saved" to prevent itself from flagging normal.dot as unsaved.
This was to avoid a previous complaint that with Adobe Acrobat installed,
normal.dot looked "unsaved" each time you opened Word, even if you hadn't
done anything to normal.dot.
However, this does NOT prevent normal.dot from being saved. It merely
prevents it from being saved automatically. To force a save, press Shift and
click File in the menu, the click Save All. Normal.dot will indeed be
saved -- changes & all.
To answer your question, however, to use the /t switch, there should be a
space between /t and the end of winword.exe", and NO space between the t and
the beginning of the template specification. I always use the full spec so
I'm sure it will find the template I want it to. So, the spec might look
something like this:
...winword.exe" /t"C:\Documents and Settings\Herb\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates\WS Report.dot"

OK, thanks!
Is there a way I can get Word to start up then in a different template?
When I follow the on-line instructions (using the /t switch), Windows tells
me it is not a valid shortcut. (I’m a Mac user that just bought a PC as an
“accessory” to my PowerBook...lol)

Acrobat 7 prevents saving changes to Normal.dot, where such customizations
are held.

It's also possible that this switch doesn't work on Macs. In any case, an
easier way to start with a document based on a specific template is to put a
shortcut to that template on the desktop and use it to start Word.

Oh, I know the switch isn¹t applicable to the Mac. I just added that as an
excuse for ignorance of Word for Windows...:-)
