I have Office 2003 and in Word the list of recently opened documents is
missing from the file menu. In the options settings, the recently opened
files option is greyed out and can't be checked.
Can anyone please advise on what is wrong and how to fix it? Could it be a
virus?
Thanks a lot for any advice.

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=284896 "'Most recently
used' list missing from File menu and 'Recently used file list'
option unavailable in Office XP and 2003".
