Word 2003

During a repair of something entirely different I deleted Normal.dot. I
think that may have something to do with this.
"Export to" from the File menu is missing. In particular I want to use
Export to Compact HTML menu option, but it's gone. It's also not on
Tools > Customize > Commands
Where did it go?

Hi Nehmo,

The Export to Compact HTML is from a Word 2002(only)
add in (Office HTML Filter v2).  In Word 2003 the
same functionallity is provided from
File=>Save As Web Page-Filtered
using the settings from Tools=>Options=>General=>[Web Options]

Hi Nehmo,

Actually that should have said the add-in was for
Word 2000 rather than Word 2002.  Both Word 2002
and Word 2003 have the File=>Save As Web Page-Filtered
feature.

I remember downloading Word's compact HTML add-on a long time ago;
I'm sure the first time was during a previous version of Word. But
I'm certain I've used it numerous times after I upgraded to 2003. I
didn't use the icon, but I even recall an icon (now gone) on the main
toolbar.

Yes, I see the Save As filtered HTML option, and I'll use that. So
the problem is solved. But what happened? Did I somehow unnecessarily
have the Compact HTML add-on on Word 2003?

Hi Nehmo,

If you upgraded from Office/Word 2000 to newer versions
it is possible that the older addin was still there, though
not needed from within Word, although you can still use the
command line/start=>Programs portion standalone to batch
process Word HTML files to Word Filtered/Compact HTML files.

Apparently, I did have Compact HTML as a working add-on to Word 2003. It
worked, and I didn’t use the feature on any other installation of Word
2003, so I never noticed that Filtered HTML was what was normal for Word
2003.

I think the current condition (Compact HTML disappearing) occurred when
I was repairing an unrelated problem in Word. But you know how one thing
leads to another, and I got sidetracked with a problem with Explorer’s
search. Checking the Case sensitive box in Explorer’s search does the
opposite of what it should. I still haven’t figured that one out.

Anyway, during the repair process, I deleted Normal.dot. I suspect
deleting Normal.dot caused the changeover form Compact HTML to the
Filtered HTML. But then again, I did other stuff too, and I don't see
how an add-on can disappear that way.
