Hello,

Whenever I open a Word doc, new or old, I click Format>Styles and Formatting
so I can use my S&F pane to apply styles. When I apply a style, say H1, a
copy of the  H1 style appears at the top of the pane with a line separating
it from the styles list. I interpret this to be "a recently used list", the
problem is I don't want it. I can't find a setting that will allow me to turn
it off. How can I get rid of this "recently used section"? Am I missing a
service patch or something, it's driving me mental.
I am using Microsoft Office Word 2003 (11.6502.6408) SP1.

Many thanks,
Sebastian

Hi =?Utf-8?B?U2ViYXN0aWFu?=,

Yes, it's a "recently used" list and I'm afraid there's no way to suppress it.

Are you sure I can't suppress it? When I work on the other computer in my
area, I don't have the same problem. My S&F pane doesn't create a recently
used list on the other computers, it is only on this one computer.

I am confused :)

What do you have selected for "Show" at the bottom of the pane? Also note
that if you are working scrolled down in the pane, you may not see the MRU
list.

Hi Suzanne,

I have Available Styles selected in the Show dropdown. I have tested it out
on both computers, scrolled the pane up and down from top to bottom, changed
the selection in the Show dropdown. That recently used list is only an issue
on one of the computers in my area. Luckily, it's not the computer I
regularly work on, but we have writers that aren't quite up to snuff with
their Word skills and it confuses them. I thought there must be a setting to
make it go away because, like I said, it doesn't appear on the other
computers.

Maybe that one computer is missing a service patch? Or maybe it is the only
one that has a certain SP, I don't know, this is mind boggling.

Thanks!

I do know that sometimes I notice it and sometimes I don't. When I *want* to
use it, sometimes I'm not seeing it, but if I scroll up it is there. As you
say, though, the difference in presentation is probably probably
attributable to an SP disparity.

Hi Sebastian,

The MRU list in the Styles task pane generally appears when you have selected the 'All Styles' choice at the bottom of the task
pane. Switching to 'Formatting in use' then back to another setting should clear it.
