How do I see an "Example" of my template in the Style Gallery? The
"Preview" shows okay with styles from the Gallery, but I don't see anything
in Example. Do I have to create a document first? Using Word 2002 and
Word 2003

I would recommend avoiding the Style gallery and simply putting together
your own templates. Use them as the basis for your documents.

Hi Ardell,
The Style Gallery examples and the style samples are Autotext entries stored in the template under the names
"Gallery Example"
and
"Gallery Style Samples"
When you're in the Styles Gallery and click on the 'sample styles'
choice Word looks for a stored autotext entry with the right name
and displays the content.
Basically, you have to construct your own example, with text named
the same as each style, apply that style to each example, select
it all then add it as the correctly named Autotext entry through
Insert=>AutoText.
You can see an example of the autotext entriesm from for example
the 'Elegant Resume' template with these steps.
1. Start a new word document
2. Use Tools=>Macro=>Macros=>[Organizer]
3. Select the Autotext tab and where you see Normal.dot
choose [Close File]
4. Now click the same button, now labeled [Open File
and if you're using U.S. English you should be using
'Files of Type' Document Templates (*.dot) and see a '1033'
folder.
5. Open the 1033 folder and open the 'Elegant Resume' template.
6. Use the organizer to copy the Gallery items into your document and close the organizer.
7.Use Insert=>Autotext=>Autotext and scroll down to the Gallery Style Samples and Insert them into your blank document.
You should also now see the styles in the Styles & Formatting Taskpane
(Shift+F1 then choose the correct task pane).
