My toolbar for Acrobat Pro 6.0 in Word does not always appear. Sometimes
it does and sometimes it doesn't. I can't seem to find the reason why,
because it only happens in Word but never in Excel, Powerpoint or
Outlook. Could somebody help me out with this problem? I use Office 2003.

Thx

These applications do not all use the same add-in, so that would explain the
different behaviour. For Acrobat 6 to work properly, the latest version of
the add-in template pdfmaker.dot (compatible with Word 2003) it should be
installed in the Office startup folder -

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP

PDFMaker.DOT should then be listed in tools > templates and add-ins and be
checked. Whether or not PDFMakerA.DOT is present or checked does not matter.
Just occasionally it can be present and the toolbar is unchecked in view >
toolbars

If this doesn't correct it, close Word - see
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm
Then temporarily move the addin to another folder (eg the documents folder).
Start Word. Close Word. If prompted to save normal.dot, do so. Replace the
add-in and start Word again.

Another fix that I found which is frustrating but works is to simply
reinstall Acrobat.  It's almost faster than the hunt to make it work right.
I have Acrobat 7 and it's still happening.  Makes me crazy, but reinstalling
will re-establish the toolbar for you.  Diana

You are lucky to get it to work. I have reinstalled Word then Acrobat 6 Pro
but the toolbar still does not appear. It does not work to Create a PDF from
a file in acrobat either. I have tried all the Microsoft web advice but still
no toolbar in Word even though it is in Excel etc.

HELP? Any thoughts.

Excel uses a different add-in, so the Excel reference is irrelevant. Do you
have macro security set to Medium and to trust installed templates and
add-ins? Is the add-in listed in tools > templates and add-ins? See
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm for some
background and read my earlier reply in this thread. You will need the
latest Acrobat version 6 update to work with Word 2003.
