The toolbutton for highlighting has this name: "&Highlight".  How do I
invoke that keyboard shortcut?

      Thanks, CMA

Shortcuts of the type you refer to work only for menus. Toolbar buttons must
be clicked with the mouse unless they have a keyboard shortcut assigned.
There is no keyboard shortcut assigned to the Highlight button by default,
but you can assign one through Tools | Customize | Keyboard... Select the
Highlight entry in the All Commands category and type your desired shortcut.

Accelerator keys *do* work in toolbars - but only for text items. Ordinary
buttons can be changed to show text and the accelerators will work
(providing they are unique).

However the Highlight button is a special type (Split Button) which you
can't really do much with and, in particular, you can't make it display as
text so, in this case, you have to set up your own key - you could use Alt+H
if you wanted (it would stop it working for Help but that's probably no
great loss).

Thanks for the clarification, Tony. I virtually never use text buttons (or
accelerator keys), so I was unaware of this.

I'm a keyboard man - I can't type but it's still quicker than using the
mouse for lots of things :)

I tend to just type when I'm typing (except for the occasional keyboard
shortcut to format text as bold or italic or insert a special character).
Once I start editing and formatting, I already have the mouse in my hand, so
I tend to use menus and toolbars more.
