I've put a lot of work into creating toolbars and keyboard commands in Word
2002. All that is stored as part of the normal.dot file. Now I'm thinking of
getting Word 2003. Will my normal.dot file, with all it's toolbar
customization, carry over into Word 2003 or do I have to start from scratch?
Please let me know! Thanks very much.

Yes, it will carry over. However, make a backup before you install.

Also, not all of your customizations are in normal.dot.

You may want to move the things that are in normal.dot to a different
template anyway. It makes it more portable. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc.

If you upgrade in place, that is, if you install Office 2003 over an
existing version of Office XP, all your customizations will be preserved. I
did this some years ago, and the upgrade was seamless.

Ah, I didn't know you could install Office 2003 over an existing version of
Office. I've currently got the Office suite that has Word 2002, Access 2002,
Excel 2002 in it. I didn't think that was called Office XP, but maybe I'm
wrong about that.

So, my question is this: are you saying that I can install Office XP (which
has Word 2003, Excel 2003, etc.) over my existing Office suite with the 2002
versions on it?
