MS Office Forum / Word / Menus and Toolbars / April 2006HEADER AND FOOTER TOOLBAR HAS DISAPPEARED
I'm using Word 2002 SP3 under WinXP. I've not had this problem before, but suddenly, I cannot get the Header and Footer Toolbar to appear. If I click on View > Header and Footer, it switches to Print Layout View (if not already there), but no toolbar appears. In View > Toolbars, there is no Header and Footer Toolbar listed. Similarly, in Views > Toolbars > Customize... > Toolbars, no Header and Footer Toolbar is listed. I found an archive reference that, rather cryptically, said it was a Registry problem and referred to an article on the www.mvps.org site. But I've searched that site and cannot find the article. I thought the first part of the article (using the /a switch) had solved the problem, but I now find it is something quite different. It is only happening in one particular document, one which has had track changes on. The Header and Footer Toolbar (and the header space and footer space) appear normally in the Original and Original with Markup views, but I cannot get them to appear in the Final or Final with Markup views. I'm sifting through the archives but, so far, nothing works. I'll keep trying, but does anyone have any ideas non the amended problem? I finally fixed the problem, but I still do not know what caused it. I accepted all changes in the document and then the Header and Footer spaces and Toolbar miraculously appeared again. It was fortunate that I did not need to keep a record of all the changes, but if I had not wanted to accept all changes, I wonder how the problem might have been solved then?
