I have been trying to figure out how to get tools underneath the icons for MW
2003?

I have given MW 2003 two years to try to learn all I can about it but it has
not been easy to learn how to apply certain features I need for whatever I'm
working on.

MW 2000 was a lot easier to work with.

If anyone can tell me how I can correct this problem I would appreciate it.
(I am not able to figure out how to put MW back into 'Default' mode).

Are you saying the Tools menu is missing? See

Hello,

I have Done Method 1 and Method 2. However when I tried Method 3, that's
where I ran into problems.

It says:
Method 3

1.With Word closed, rename Normal.dot to some other name.

This is where I got lost. I closed Microsoft Word. You said to 'rename'
normal.dot to some other name. Where do I do this when Word is shut down?

BTW, I do not have normal.dot I just have Normal and in the drop down menu.
I shut it down a few times just to check if it would come up with Normal.dot
but it didn't. There's only "Normal" and ah.... Document1. I of course choose
Normal even though there's no period and then the word dot next to it.

Because I  couldn't do Method 3, I did not want to do #2 which is to

"Go back into Word, and a “virgin” copy of normal.dot will be created."

Can you please tell me what you mean once I go back into word and what this
"virgin" copy of .... will be created." means? I am not following you. I'm
really Technology-wise I am as inept as one can get and I know it is a major
deterrent for technicians to deal with the likes of us. I wish we were all on
the same wavelength when it comes to being technically like minded. But...
it's not going to work. So I     am truly asking for patience per this
matter. Our children are so far ahead of where we'll ever be when it comes to
the world of technology. The younger generations were more likely than not,
born with computer(s) in the household. Whilst in my generation, no such
thing! We couldn't wait to have COLOR television! The days were spent doing
chores after chores. But the mid 80's was a huge baby boomer time... so they
are the ones who process information and learn at such warped speed that some
of us adults haven't yet ben able to process quite like all of the children,
teenagers, adolescents and young adults. They do not have patience to sit
down with Mom and figure out what's what with the computer. (Sad but true for
many of us parents).
So, your patience, time and  most of all, your understanding is appreciated
far more than you can possibly ever imagine. Thank you for your help. Smile

Kindest regards,

3.

When you quit Word and are asked whether you would like to save changes to
Normal.dot, select Yes.

Note: This method resets all your menus, toolbars, and styles to their
original state, and also doesn't retain any macros you may have stored in
Normal.dot (although the styles, macros and custom toolbars can be copied
over using the Organizer).

You should not need to rename Normal.dot to accomplish this (but there's
more info at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm). The
Registry edit should have accomplished this. But let's start from scratch.
Try these fixes (in order):

1. Open Tools | Customize. On the Toolbars tab, select Menu Bar and press
Reset.

2. If that doesn't work, switch to the Commands tab and select Built-in
Menus in the Categories list. In the Commands list, select the appropriate
menu and drag it to the menu bar.

3. If that doesn't work (or the problem recurs on restarting Word), see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm

FWIW, you're just seeing Normal because you don't have Windows set to
display file extensions.
