NEW Adobe? Toolbar Problem

OLD SAGA:
Somehow I've gotten rid of the Adobe Toolbar from Adobe v6, in
my Word XP on XP Home SP 2.  I deleted the startup shortcut for
Acrobat Assistant.  I stopped the Acrobat Assistant from running in
the startup list of msconfig.  I downloaded and installed ZapAdobe.dot
in the Startup folder and tried to run it.  I deleted the Adobe
PDFMaker *.dot files for Word & Excel.  I went to the Adobe folder in
the Program Files and renamed every file in the PDF Maker folder to
end with *.old.  I then cut that folder and placed it in another
folder.

I rebooted.

NEW PROBLEM:
Word XP now starts up without the Adobe Toolbar.  BUT -- it
starts up and closes with an error message:
        Microsoft Visual Basic
Compile Error in Hidden Module: AutoExec

QUESTIONS:
#1--Is this compile error related to remove the Adobe Toolbar?
#2--How do I get rid of the compile error?
#3--How do I get rid of the error message?

Awaiting your responses with baited breath, I remain, yours truly,

The message is coming from an add-in or template in your Startup folder. See

There are only two items in the Startup folder:
    1 -- FineReader.dot
    2 -- Zap Adobe.dot.old
I removed both items.  I still get the same error message when
starting Word.  BTW, I get the error message when starting Excel, as
well.

Have you checked both the Word Startup folder and the Office Startup folder
as well as COM add-ins?

Yes. I've checked all the startup folders in Documents and Settings.
I do not have an Office\Startup folder, however.  I have Word XP &
Excel 2000, both stand-alone products.

I don't know what a COM ad-in is, or where they are.

Thanks Suzanne.  I think that may have finally done the trick.  Even
though I had deleted the PDFMaket.dot from the Program
Files/~/OFFICE/STARTUP folder, it came back!  I deleted it again.
Word started up without any error messages.

However,  I continue to get error messages when starting Excel 2000.

I also checked for Com Ad-Ins:  The only one is a MS Tool for East
European Languages.  I don't know what that is, but I do use Polish
and Greek on occasion.
