I have lost data because I don't really undertand how to do this.
Say, I have two files, File A which has three paragraphs at 30kb, and File B
which has five paragraphs at 50kb. When I paste file B on File A, there
remain just the five paragraphs of File Bat 50 kb. The three paragraphs of
File A are wiped out. I don't want them to be wiped out. I want the new file
to have the eight paragraphs from File A and File B added together at 80 kb.
How can I do this? This is to save me the trouble of going alternatively to
each file to look for info, when hopefully I can place all the info on one
file. Both the files have info on the same subject.
TIA

Have you tried using Insert | File? Make sure that the text of the file into
which you're inserting is not selected when you insert or paste.

Thanks for your prompt response.
Need a bit of clarifications. Pls explain on the basis of File A and File B.
Are the Insert and File commands on the top toolbar? And if I insert File B
into File A, will all of File A's info be retained and File B's info
inserted in? And making the result as the total of both File A and File B?
Thanks

Place the insertion point at the end of File A. Select File from the Insert
menu and choose File B. The content of File B will be added to the end of
File A. From your description, however, it sounds as if you'll still have
some editing/rearrangement to be done to merge the content.

You need to open File B, use Ctrl+A to select everything in it, then Ctrl+C
to copy it to the clipboard, then open File A, use Ctrl+End to move to the
end of the file, maybe press Enter to move the cursor to a new paragraph
then use Ctrl+V to paste the content of File B at the end of File A. Then
save File A.

Thanks for your prompt response.
What I am trying to do is to add the contents of File B on to File A at the
appropriate places. Lets say File A has three paragraphs. File B's content
is also regarding the three paragraphs of File A but some additions. So I
would want the result to be neatly File A's three paragraphs with the
additional content of File B added in. And the remaining two paragraphs of
File B would be simply additional to File A below the three paragraphs.
Thanks

If what you are saying is that you have three paragraphs in File A that are
duplicated, with additional content, in File B, or that File B contains
content that needs to be inserted at various places within File A, then
there's no way you can use either Paste or Insert File to achieve what
you're looking for, at least not without some cutting and pasting or
drag-and-drop editing after you've pasted or inserted the new text. It's
possible that you could use Tools | Compare and Merge Documents for this,
but I doubt that that would work, either.

A bit of clarification, are you saying that when you copy content
between your documents that the receiving document content is
overwritten when you paste?
If that's the case then what steps are you using exactly to paste the
content? Are both documents open and are you selected what you want to
copy in File B and pasting it into the open File A? If so then you
seeing only your flashing cursor when you paste or is part of the
document selected?
