I ran across an issue where my default printer was listed as normal under
File/Print in Word 2003 but on the printer icon in the toolbar there are no
printers listed, it just comes up blank.  Anyone run across this before?  Any
solutions or guesses??

Thanks in advance

Look in the Printers folder and make sure there is a printer set as the
default.

There is a default printer setup in the printer folder.  Any other ideas?

Okay, is it selected as the active printer in Word (File | Print)?

What is the name of the printer (as shown in Word's Print dialog)?

What happens if you go to the Printers folder and give the printer a more
friendly name? (You can do this through Properties.) I'm thinking that the
backslashes may be confusing Word.

I can't really try that because it is on a network computer at work and it is
random when it happens.  I take it that this is a very rare situation.
Personally i have never come across this in the past.

Changing the name of the printer in the properties will not, AFAIK, affect
what the printer *is*. Is the driver installed locally? If not, that could
be the issue.

I believe the driver is installed locally.  It's TCP/IP printing.  The
problem is I don't had full access setup yet to really check.
