I have Win XP and Office XP.

Suddenly all the words and numbers in all my Word documents have become
lighter or more greyish/blurish. They were quite blackish before and easier
to read. What has gone wrong?
TIA

Just a guess but I suspect you have set your display properties to use Clear
Type - which is frequently anything but :(
Rught click an empty part of the desktop - select properties > appearance >
effects and see what you have set under 'smooth edges'

It is Standard and not Clear Type.
