Cutom toolbars in 2007

I just got Office 2007 and I want to cry. I used to have several custom
toolbars for my Macros (about 30 macros on 3 different toolbars). Now I only
have the Quick Access toolbar and there is no way to tell which macro is
which without hovering over the button. On the toolbar, I could use text, but
that doesn't seem to be an option now. Plus, I don't want to have to put all
30 macros on the Quick Access Toolbar. Is there anything I am missing here.
Does anyone have a solution other taking a sledgehammer to my computer? (An
option that keeps looking better every day!)

I HAD to upgrade because Outlook XP would not work on my new Vista computer.
(And the new Windows Mail was AWFUL!) I have been a Microsoft defender for
many years, but right now they are really at the bottom of my list. Vista has
been a nightmare, now Office is a nightmare. I am telling everybody I know
not to upgrade. Nothing works right with Vista. I am going to have to put out
thousands of more dollars to upgrade all my software. Even my brand new HP
fax machine/printer isn't compatible with Vista.

Hi Nancy,

If your macros were in a Word 2007 template from an older version and you have those on a separate toolbar in the earlier version of
Word, rather than added to one of Word's (older version) 'regular' toolbars, then if that template is in place for Word 2007 those
macros should appear in a separate 'add-in' tab in Word 2007, using the same icon buttons you assigned in the earlier version.

If you have the Macros on the Quick Access Toolbar you can choose different icons from a rather limited set by using
 Alt, T, O, C
then selecting the macro in the Quick Access list and clicking the modify button.  Unfortunately you can't add a text label

Beyond that, the ribbon is 'extensible' (apparently meaning a programmer can understand how to 'easily' modify it <g>) so you could
add your own Ribbon tabs, groups, etc.  There are a couple of third party sites and tools towards that end already including the
Ribbon Customizer on   http://pschmid.net

Thanks. That helps a little. However, it doesn't do me any good when I open
an existing document.

Those icons don't do me ANY good at all. How is a smiley face supposed to
tell me that this is the macro to remove all double spaces in a document?

I am testing it right now with the trial version. However, it doesn't do
ANYTHING with macros. There are no options to include individual macros at
all.

Hi Nancy,

The 'tooltips' for the different macros are about the only 'text' options if they're on the QAT.  In the same 'modify' dialog that
has the choice of icons is a display name field that you can use to write a description of what a macro does.  For example your
description of
"macro to remove all double spaces in a document"
can be typed in that space in addition to or instead of the Macro name.

Macros stored in templates in their own toolbar (saved in a prior Word version) will appear in the Add-In tab, usually as they
appeared in the older version.

You're correct that the Ribbon Customizer does not yet have a 'macros' section of it's own, although Patrick Schmid (who is
travelling and doesn't presently have access to the discussion groups) asked me to mention that he is looking at that for a future
version and suggested that you post suggestions for that on his website forum at http://pschmid.net.

It is possible to modify the ribbon on your own, but it's not an 'end user' level task.
