I use XP 2003 at the office but my new home PC has (Vista) Word 2007. My
problem is that the new menus don't work for me. I've used MS Office
products for 16 years & the complete change in menus to (purportedly) 'user
friendly' as severely impeded my ability to work at a decent speed because I
have to go searching and try to figure out where each of my most commonly
used commands now reside. And, yes, the same severe frustration with these
new versions does apply to Excel 2007.
Additionally, is there any way to have Word 2007 use the system colors
rather than one of the three color schemes offered by Word?
Appreciate any help you can offer.

Essentially no. This is a new product with a new file format and a
completely new presentation. While I appreciate that the new version would
be frustrating for someone coming to it with years of experience (like you
and me), persevere as it gets easier with practice. There are third party
tools that will give you some measure of the original. Paul has mentioned
one - the free version of http://ribboncustomizer.com/ will give you the
menus, but whether this is an improvement of not only you can judge.
http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm gives details of another
method for getting personal toolbars from 2003 into 2007 (given that you
still have access to 2003).
