I have Word 2003.   I just uninstalled an application that added a menu to
Word.   The uninstall program did not remove the menu.    I have removed all
of the menu items from the menu.   How can I remove the Menu heading?
Tools>Customize does not do that.

Thanks

That application, whatever it was, probably placed a .dot file in Word's Startup
folder to supply the menu and macros called by the menu, but the uninstaller
failed to remove that file.

With Word closed, use Windows Explorer to go to the folder

  %appdata%\Microsoft\Word\Startup

If there are any files there that you didn't put there yourself, move them to a
different folder or delete them.

If you don't see any files there, try looking in

 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP

If both folders are empty, read
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011514521033.aspx to get
instructions for looking for other types of add-in.

Thanks for your prompt reply.   I checked the Word and Office startup
folders.   The Add-In was not there.   I followed the suggestion in web
address you cited to determine all of the add-ins that Word loads when it
starts.   The add-in was not there.   I checked the COM add-ins, and it was
not listed.   I have removed all of the entries under the menu headings.   By
the way, the add-ins were installed by Adobe Acrobat Standard.   The menu
headings are are Adobe PDF and Acrobat Comments.   I think that Adobe Acrobat
Standard modified the list of menu headings used by Word even though no
add-in is actually loaded.

Any more suggestions?

Since I don't have Acrobat, I can't give you any first-hand advice. Graham Mayor
may be able to help, though -- read

Again thanks for the suggestions.   I visited Graham Mayor's web site.  He
mentioned changes to the registry.   The registry entries were removed by the
uninstall program.   He also suggested changes to Word to prevent installing
the Acrobat COM add-in.    That add-in no longer exists.    My opinion is
that I will just leave the menu headings there.   The only other option is to
re-install Word which I do not plan to do.

Thanks,

Gordon

Acrobat's add-ins should not write to the program and removing the add-in
*should* remove the menus, however I concede that Adobe's add-in programming
leaves a little to be desired. If you clear any orphan temporary files and
rename normal.dot with Word and Outlook closed, the problem should go away.

I did as you suggested.   I renamed Normal.dot, and the menu headings no
longer appear.
