A student of mine is typing a document with Word.
Everytime she wants a " mark or a ', the result is a
square white box. Anyway to correct this?
One possibility is that she's using a font that does not contain the "curly"
quotes characters. Word will display a square to represent any character it
can't print. What happens if she presses Ctrl+Z immediately after typing an
apostrophe? If this changes the square back to a straight apostrophe, then
the problem can be solved (sort of) by clearing the check box for "Straight
quotes" with "smart quote" on the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools |
AutoCorrect.

Hi Fred,
TNR definitely has the curly quotes. You might check "Tools > Options >
Compatibility > Font substitution" if there is some strange font
substitution happening.
Apart from that, I can't tink of a reason why square boxes would appear on
the screen.
If they only appear in print, it might be a printer driver issue.
Greetings,
Klaus
